The Delaware Municipal Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases and traffic violations. Bench warrants are common when people fail to appear for hearings. The court issues arrest warrants for criminal offenses too. Warrant records from both courts are kept as part of the official court record and can be accessed through the Clerk's office.

Types of Warrants
Three types of warrants come from Delaware County courts. Arrest warrants get issued when a judge finds probable cause that someone committed a crime. A prosecutor or law enforcement officer files a complaint and a judge reviews it. If there is enough evidence, the warrant gets signed.
Bench warrants are the most common. They happen when someone misses a court hearing, skips out on a fine, or violates the terms of probation or parole. Once a bench warrant is entered into the system, any contact with police can lead to an arrest. Search warrants let officers search a specific location for evidence. They are sealed until served. After the return is filed with the court, they become public.
